Larian Studios Reveal a Fresh Divinity, Calling it Their Most Ambitious RPG Ever

The buzz surrounding the recent awards show has been intense, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling image of a strange statue. The mystery has now been solved. Larian Studios is creating a completely new Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer featuring striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio warned that a direct sequel to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.

Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This choice of words implies that the team is likely designing a real-time experience rather than another turn-based title. At this moment, it remains theory, as only a teaser video is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is universally respected and it's fair to claim it pioneered the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for intricate stories, branching plots, and complex character building—qualities that later found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency given to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is full of specialized paths you can achieve if you're playing as a distinct build with a unique decision path.

The series is also notoriously open-ended, letting players to experiment both in story and combat. Nearly every quest can be solved in multiple ways, often in surprising fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you heeded something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is precisely these elements that have cemented the series to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games of all time. Now, the RPG community can anticipate a new entry in this legendary franchise.
